Matthew Major
Sales Engineer"I genuinely like helping people. I like the sound in a client's voice when they get it. When I know they've got it, I know the time spent was worth it."
Tech Support Engineer Matt Major is the guy who turns mumbo-jumbo into language a client can understand. He helps them understand and use the software to make their businesses run better. "I'm the first line of defense for programmers," Matt laughs. "I work on the assumption that it's not the program, but the user. Of course, if we can't fix it then it goes right back to programming." Most of the time, though, Matt is reassuring and helping clients be better e-commerce operators. "We help them with their software and help them through their crises," says Matt. "Our job is to make their sites work and make them feel comfortable. They call us angry and we make them happy."
Matt started playing video games as a young teen, but when curiosity led him to open, then disable the family computer, he was told it wouldn't be replaced until he repaired it. (He did) Matt went on to get a degree in business (his family's choice) and a degree in computer systems technology (his choice). Then he followed his family and went into the tax business for a few years where he managed, taught others to do taxes and managed the computer systems. "Taxes are part of my family background," says Matt. "But it's really more seasonal work. I wanted something more."
A roommate who works for Solid Cactus mentioned to Matt that the company was looking for some tech support people. At the time Matt was running 7 different computers in a house he shared. "I applied and Bingo!" says Matt. "I really enjoy it. I'm happy in what I do."
Matt plans to stay with Solid Cactus. He likes where the company is going. "We're making a national mark," says Matt. "I feel proud to be here and proud of what we're doing. I like being on the cutting edge of something. I hope to advance in the company and take the road where it leads."
