E-Commerce Consultant Joseph Miller is the main point of contact for Solid Cactus clients. His job is to advise, consult and guide his clients through the design and programming of their sites. "We provide guidance in the e-commerce industry," says Joe. "My job is to resolve any issue that arises."
Joe's first exposure to computers came in early grade school. "I grew up on them," he recalls. "But it was mostly general use. I guess I started at about age 7 or 8 playing computer quiz games and just sort of went from there." In college Joe was a Business and Philosophy major and that's where he first saw the promise of computers. "We used them to run some business applications. I realized what they could do and that really spurred my interest."
Joe kept up with the new stuff while looking for an industry that would match his interests. "I grew up in Northeastern Pennsylvania and I have a friend who works here," Joe recalls. "I came in for an interview and realized my friend was right about the environment. It's an enjoyable work environment. It's not high pressure at Solid Cactus and you get that sense right away. Two hours after my interview they called me back."
E-Commerce Consulting is different everyday, says Joe. "Many of the issues are the same, but every business is unique and those slight differences make every circumstance a brand new challenge. I talk to design and programming people whenever I need help or advice. We're all in the same place and we're accessible to each other." Joe says it's the clients and their energy that really fuels the relationship. "Our clients are excited. They have great company ideas, they're excited and they're passionate. It's great to work with people like that."
So far Joe likes everything about Solid Cactus. "It's a relaxed atmosphere which is good because we have to perform for our clients," Joe says simply. "After all, it's their livelihood." As for the company, Joe likes being treated like a person and he likes the fact that the company takes care of its people. "I'm a gym rat and I love the fact that we have a full gym with changing rooms."
Going forward, Joseph Miller likes the direction the industry and Solid Cactus are headed. "E-commerce has huge potential," he says. "I see no sign of it slowing. Things are getting better here and I have a great chance to grow. Who knows? Maybe I'll even get into areas where I can use my business degree."
