Jean Lloyd
Supervisor, PPC
"We have a great team, so I'm never alone with a problem. We all have each other's back."
Jean Lloyd's job is to get the most from her clients' search engine marketing accounts. "We manage their pay per click (PPC) ads on Google, Yahoo and MSN," says Jean. "We analyze the client's site and then we work with them to find the keywords that are bringing the most relevant traffic to the site. We write new ad text to keep it fresh and add the proper keywords. Then we set it up, check the bids and spend to make sure we are hitting our goals, and of course try to capitalize on what performs the best."
Jean was a writing major in college and didn't have much advanced training with computers. "I liked computers and my school encouraged English majors to focus on tech writing," Jean recalls. "The more I did it, the better I liked it. I realized tech writing is different than other kinds of writing. It's more concise than creative. I liked the challenge and knew I wanted to do more of it."
Solid Cactus hired Jean as a tech writer right out of college. "I was doing all the setup but none of the managing," she says. "Managing was the logical next step." Jean has also seen search engine marketing blossom like so many other ideas at Solid Cactus. "We literally went from a plan to more than a dozen people in the first year. It's fun and exciting!" She also likes sharing with the other team members. "Every day is different. Every problem is different and people's experiences are different. Just because I have a new problem doesn't mean someone else on the team hasn't dealt with it, too."
Jean doesn't know what the future holds, but she knows where she'll be. "I think I was the 57th person through the door," says Jean. "Now we're many times that size and the more we grow, the more opportunities there are. I'd love to grow with this company. I'm going to stay right here and see how far we all go."
